The conference titled Problem Based Learning in Engineering Education, held annually in October at the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Engineering until 2023, aims to provide an opportunity for colleagues teaching in various technical, economic, and natural sciences fields to share their thoughts, suggestions, and best practices in engineering education.
In recent years, increasing attention has been focused on the methodological issues in technical higher education. However, current analyses are still primarily limited to subjects whose teaching methodologies are well-established in relation to teacher training in general education and are continually the subject of research (e.g., mathematics, physics, computer science).
We believe that the situation in technical higher education—due to ongoing processes in public education and societal changes—forces the participants in engineering education to address the methodology of teaching professional subjects as well. Using a systems approach, they must adopt unified principles and techniques to make the entire educational process more effective.
We invite colleagues who teach professional and foundational subjects, including engineers, economists, mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists, educators, and secondary school teachers, to join us in collective thinking to support each other in the success of daily teaching work.
Expanding this idea, the PBLEE conference will continue in 2025 as an international conference under the name Innovation in Engineering Education.
Our research in the field of methodological issues in engineering education is connected to the Doctoral Program in Mathematical and Informatic Didactics at the University of Debrecen’s Doctoral School of Mathematics and Computer Science.
A publication with ISBN will be prepared based on the abstracts of the conference presentations.
